Spectacular Burren farm guided at €300,000
LATE last year I had occasion to visit the Burren in Co Clare to celebrate the Winterage festival, when the cattle are taken from the summer pastures to the higher and harder ground. There they can feast on the flora and grasses that are particularly tasty when our part of the planet tilts away from the sun.
Ennistymon auctioneer Laurence Hannon of Vaughan Hannon auctioneers is handling the private treaty sale of a 181ac Bur- ren farm at Liscoogan, Ballyvaughan. The guide price is €300,000
Located a few kilometres south of Ballyvaughan the property includes an old two-bedroom farmhouse in need of attention. Set on 31ac the house in itself may not be valuable but its location should ease the passage of a planning application should that be sought.
As one can imagine, planning permission in the Burren is all but impossible to get. There is also an old ruin on the farm that Mr Hannon thinks might have possibilities in terms of developing a second dwelling, this of course would be subject to the required planning permission being obtained.
The land around the house is grazing ground with some meadowing used for fodder harvesting.
According to Mr Hannon the dwelling but is in a lovely location with fantastic views of the Burren and the surrounding countryside.
The property is accessed by a boreen that leads to the homestead on 31ac it also leads on to 150ac of winterage.
This substantial parcel of upland Burren ground is wild and spectacular ground and found at the heart of a UNESCO world heritage site. For anyone hoping to farm in the area there is great support and assistance available from the Burren Life Project initiated by Dr Brendan Dunford and run in collaboration with the farming organisations and the Department of Agriculture
Mr Hannon says that overall, this is an ideal holding for someone looking to expand their farm or purchase a property suitable for farming.
LAHINCH RESIDENTIAL FARM
Staying in North Clare Mr Hannon is also handling the sale of 34ac residential farm at Knockneppy near Lahinch. On the private treaty market with a guide of €160,000 the property includes an unoccupied dwelling in need of attention with a range of dated outbuildings. Situated 10 minutes from Lahinch the land is made up of decent grazing ground and lower lying land.
Given its location near the coastal town of Lahinch the property might be attractive to a range of customers.
Nearer Ennis, at Coolgowna, Kilnamona the same auctioneer is selling a 6ac parcel of ground with a small block of three stables guided at €48,000. The land is in grass and forestry with 2ac planted and the rest in grazing. The holding is 6km from Ennis and is described as being suitable for equestrian purposes.
