A Cork farm with strong dairy potential is coming to auction, reports

-

CORK is leading the pack out of the traps for the 2018 auction season. A 59.3ac residential farm at Clondrohid near Macroom is attracting a lot of local interest in advance of it coming to auction at the end of March as an entire or in lots.

While an exact guide price is not available, land in the area has been making in the region of €10,000 to €12,000/ac. Located on the Clondrohid to Macroom road, the property includes a fine traditional two storey farmhouse in need of attention, an extensive range of old farm sheds in various states of repair, plenty of road frontage, multiple access points and over 50ac of good West Cork land.

The place also has milking potential having been a dairy farm at one time.

Cashel auctioneer Nicholas Maher says the holding is located in strong farming country and will be attractive to a range of customers, including people with an interest in the house on a few acres.

The residence has a roadside location and could be separated from the rest of the holding. Built in 1910, it is structurally sound but hasn’t been lived in for quite some time and needs refurbishment.

Likewise, the farm buildings are in need of a lot of work and although containing the remnants of a dairy operation, they are not quite fit for modern farm use.

The land is good undulating agricultural ground that is fertile and well farmed having been rented for a number of years.

It has extensive road frontage with numerous access points and in the event of obtaining proper planning per- mission, there could be scope for residential development.

The property will be brought to auction and offered in lots, including the entire.

The first lot will consist of the house and outbuildings on 2.8ac, the second consists of 33.34ac with plenty of road frontage and two entrances, while the third lot is a 23.15ac parcel of top quality ground in permanent pasture with several access points from the public road. Mr Maher thinks this portion may have the best of the planning prospects, subject to the required permission.

The place is due to be sold at auction, but may be sold previously and such is the interest in the property, it is currently under offer.

For now, the auction is scheduled to take place at the Castle Hotel, Macroom, at 2.30pm on Wednesday, March 28.
