Model county farm for €1.7m

- JIM O’BRIEN

BALLINGALE house and farm on 140ac with an extensive modern yard at Taghmon in Wexford is one of the finest farming properties on the market at the moment. In a transaction handled by Goffs, the farm is for sale by private treaty with a guide price of €1.7m.

Located almost 2km from the village of Taghmon the holding is 14km from Wexford.

It is all in one block except for a small 0.5ac field across the road from the main farm. The land is typical Wexford ground laid out in a single unit, divided into six main divisions.

These are large fields with one stretching to 63ac and divided into three paddocks. Another field is 28ac in size and another, nearest the yard measures 16ac. Three smaller paddocks are located around the yard. The land is level in topography, all in grass and fenced with top of the range material. Water is supplied to every paddock from a private well, while a natural watercourse runs along two boundaries of the farm.

A top of the range farmyard with independent access from the road contains a wide range of facilities. These include an eight-column cattle shed with accommodation for 150 cattle in two big, loose-bedded divisions with a covered, slatted easy-feed feeding passage to the front. The shed is fitted out with calving pens and a comprehensive range of cattle handling facilities including an indoor crush.

Other buildings include a three-column slatted shed, a three-column round roofed shed with double lean-to for hay and straw storage, seven stables, a bull pen and a machinery shed. The house is a sturdy bungalow built 40 years ago, in good condition and was well maintained.

According to Richard Brophy of Goffs this is a superb property suitable for any type of farming. Given its size and versatility he expects there will be interest from far and near.
