‘HE’S A GENIUS AT WHAT HE DOES AND IT GIVES PEOPLE A CHANCE TO SEE THE TREASURE TROVE THAT IS HERE’
PAT HICKEY, one of the driving forces behind the Portroe Vintage and Parish Day, has admired the work of Pat Egan for many years.
“He is a genius at what he does and has such a collection of material I said it was a shame people don’t get to see it.
“So he told me to organise an event and together with the parish council we put a plan together.”
On Sunday, July 15, Pat’s field and shed at Youghal, Newtown will be a hive of activity. Along with Pat’s display, vintage owners from the area will show their machines as well as the Nenagh Classic Car Club.
A range of displays and demonstrations will include contributions from members of the Irish Coast Guard, Nenagh Fire Brigade and the Tipperary Civil Defence. Tipperary goalie Darren Gleeson will man a set of goal posts in a game of ‘beat the keeper’ while other activities will include dancing, bouncy castles, food stalls and trade stalls.
“Gates will open at 11.30am, under-16s are free and it’s €10.00 for everyone else,” said Pat Hickey.
“We are all very proud to have a man like Pat Egan in our locality and it’s a shame that all his work is hidden away. This gives people a chance to see this treasure trove that is here in the parish.”
