Price topper fetches €5,000 at Limousin heifer sale

KERRY-BRED Castleview Lacey became the price topper at the biennial sale of heifers from the Castleview and Roundhill Limousin herds, two of the best known and most respected herds in the country.

Castleview Lacey, an outstandin­g November 2016born daughter of Wilodge Tonka (WTA) and the OmerMn dam Castleview Cherry, sold for €5,000.

The sale at Roscrea Mart combined a superb selection of heifers from the Castleview herd of Sean O’Sullivan, Castleisla­nd, Co Kerry and the Roundhill herd of Tim, Doreen and Katie Corridan, Fedamore, Co Limerick.

In total, 49 heifers went under the hammer of auctioneer George Candler and found new homes in a highly successful day out for both herds.

Ten heifers from the Castleview herd sold for an average of €3,040.

Sale topper for the Roundhill herd was Roundhill Ljoyeuse 1669, sold for €3,500, a February 2016-born daughter of Casimir 65 (LM2065) and Roundhill Gjoyeuse 1289 and due to calf to Grenache in October.

Ten heifers from the Roundhill herd averaged €3,180 at the sale.

Price leaders for the Castleview herd included Castleview Matalie, an April 2017-born daughter of Ampertaine Commander (APM) and Castleview Daffodil, which sold for €3,600.

Castleview Lily, a September 2016-born heifer sold for €3,000; Castleview M 877, a 15-month-old heifer sold for €3,000; Castleview Linda sold for €2,900; Castleview Kassie sold for €2,800; and Castleview Leah, a September 2016-born heifer, sold for €2,700. Four heifers from the herd sold for €2,600 each: Castleview Kalvine, Castleview Kory, Castleview Lennon and yearling heifer Castleview M 886.

The sale price leaders from the Roundhill herd included: Roundhill Lnora 1697 Et, August 2016-born daughter of Elite Forever Brill Et (TVR) and the Goldies Terence dam Roundhill Enora 1182 sold for €3,400.

Roundhill Lgiroflee 1687, a daughter of Ireland’s most popular Limousin AI sire Castleview Gazelle (ZAG) and the multi-award winning Mas Du Clo dam Roundhill Egiroflee 1164 Et sold for €3,300 to a Tralee-based buyer.

Roundhill Lunanime 1689, a daughter of Roundhill Hamlet and the 2014 Junior All-Ireland Heifer Roundhill I Unamine 1440 was one of four to sell for €3,300.

Also selling at €3,300 was Roundhill Lbelladone 1705, a September 2016-born heifer daughter of On-Dit (ONI) and the Lino dam Roundhill Ebelladone 1156 Et, with her grand-dam Vanya Et having won numerous championsh­ips in an illustriou­s show career.

Roundhill M Romance 1820 and a calf, Elite Jason Et daughter Roundhill Lbelladone 1683, sold for €3,200.
