COONAN Properties are handling the sale of two very different rural properties that exemplify the range of rural holdings on the market.

One is a modern house on 12ac at the heart of commuter country near Kill in Co Kildare, and the other an island off the coast of Mayo.

First up is Duvillaun Beg is a 55.8ac island near Belmullet, 2.4km from the mainland and easily accessible by boat from Blacksod Pier.

One of a cluster of Duvillaun islands, it was inhabited until the end of the 19th century and, according to the auctioneers, while it may translate as ‘little black island’ it is in fact made up of 55ac of rich vibrant green.

“This is an amazing opportunity to purchase an island with views back to the Wild Atlantic Way tourist trail,” said Will Coonan.

While those with an interest in buying islands are generally found among the rich and famous, Mr Coonan believes that with a guide price of €200,00, Duvillaun Beg will attract widespread interest at the online auction on Wednesday, July 22 at 12pm.

Equestrian base

Back on the east coast, Philip Byrne of Coonans is handling the sale of Newbury House at Alasty, Kill, Co Kildare.

The neo-Georgian House extending to €2,900 sq ft and set on 12ac is for sale by private treaty sale with a guide price of €925,000.

The lands are all in grass and laid out in stud-railed paddocks while the yard includes six stables, a tack-room, a haybarn, a floodlit sand arena and a garage.

It is described by the auctioneers as ideal for a family with equestrian interests.
