Learn more about marketing timber by signing up to free online event

-

Talking Timber, Teagasc’s annual timber marketing event is back, but this year, due to Covid-19 restrictions, we are coming to you online with Virtual Talking Timber.

The event will take place on Tuesday, July 14, starting at 7pm sharp. It will last one hour.

If you wish to attend, you need to register in advance at www. teagasc.ie/talkingtimber2020. Then you will receive an email with a link, which will bring you into our live broadcast on the day.

Virtual Talking Timber aims to support forest owners in thinning their conifer forests, growing quality timber and selling it successfully.

The focus is on conifers. In the autumn, we are planning an event with the focus on managing broadleaves.

With more and more private forests reaching thinning stage, there are both opportunities and challenges to bring this rapidly expanding timber resource to market.

Forest owners need to ask the right questions and make the right decisions to maximise their conifer forests’ potential quality and value. Questions may include: ■ Is my forest ready for thinning? ■ What is the best way to thin?

■ How can I keep control to ensure the best outcome?

Format

The format for Virtual Talking Timber will be a mixture of short, on-site videos followed by a live panel discussion.

You will have the opportunity to have your questions answered in a live Q&A session. So we encourage you to ask questions and comment during our virtual event.

Foresters from Teagasc and the Forestry Division of the Department of Agriculture, together with a forest owner and a sawmiller will discuss preparing for thinning conifers with a focus on second thinning and the market requirements for quality timber.
