Doyle left on the bench as Wolves fall into drop zone

IRELAND international Kevin Doyle failed to even make it off the bench last night despite Wovles crashing to a 2-1 defeat against Barnsley that put them in the relegation zone in the Championship.

With Dean Saunders’ team trailing after 84 minutes, the manager brought on 20-year-old striker Jake Cassidy while Doyle was left to sit on the bench.

Doyle’s international team-mate Stephen Ward was also left on the bench for the entire 90 minutes with Wolves now finding themselves two points from safety having only been relegated from the Premier League last season.

Meanwhile, the agent of former League of Ireland manager Sean Connor claims that the Belfast man is stranded in South Africa after being ordered to leave Zimbabwe by bus as he awaits resolution on a cash dispute with his former employers.

The former Sligo, Bohemians, Dundalk and Galway boss was dismissed by CAPS United last season and a subsequent tribunal decided that Connor was entitled to a $100,000 payment. CAPS appealed that judgment but Connor has travelled back to the region to seek his settlement.

His agent, Denford Matashu, told the ‘Zimbabwe Herald’ that Connor is in South Africa due to visa issues which forced him to move countries.

In the same newspaper, a letter purporting to be from a friend of Connor claims that he is staying in a two-roomed cottage without running water and he has limited funds to support his ongoing stay.

“Sean just wants to have his case with CAPS United finalised so that he can get his dues, and we are waiting for the courts to give us a date as to when the case will be determined,” said Matashu.
