Heartbreak for Burnett
DEREK BURNETT agonisingly missed out on the semi-finals of the shooting trap contest by just two points in Baku yesterday.
The top six qualified for the semifinal. Burnett had fired well on Tuesday’s day one of qualification for the later stages.
Of his three rounds, the Longford man landed two top marks of 25 and a 23.
In the first of the two final rounds during yesterday’s day two, Burnett missed the maximum, hitting a 24 marker, requiring a final shot of 25; he shot 23, leaving him just two points short.
It was a heartbreaking finish for the Longford man, who aims to qualify for the Rio Olympics next summer – which would be his fifth Games. European Games Live, Setanta, from 4.55
