RACE-BY-RACE GUIDE TO DAY 2

-

1.30

BACARDYS can get the day off to a good start for the Irish and Willie Mullins. He had lost his way a little and didn’t look too classy when winning over the Christmas at Leopardstown, but he’d lost a shoe and made up for that when taking a Grade One at the same venue last month.

2.10

MIGHT BITE was unlucky when falling at the last in a Grade One at Kempton over the Christmas, but he had a good quality field beaten and is one of the top novices in the business at the moment.

2.50

The Nicky Henderson-trained

HARGAM was racing in Grade One company just over a year ago but his form has taken a slide and he’s struggled in Grade Three handicaps of late. But the assessor has dropped his mark by over a stone and he gets the nod each-way around 20/1 in first-time cheekpieces.

3.30

Rated 8lb clear of nearest rival Fox Norton, DOUVAN is the real deal with 13 wins for Willie Mullins since moving from France. At such a short price, it’s not a race for betting. Sit back and enjoy watching the best in the business right now.

4.10

The Irish have a great record here but Philip Hobbs is putting up a good fight for the British with two wins and two places. Enda Bolger’s Cantlow will probably go off as favourite but is a bit short in the betting, so Hobbs’ SAUSALITO

SUNRISE gets the nod around 16/1 having returned to some sort of form when third in a Listed handicap at Ascot last time.

4.50

A bit of a lottery so a chance is taken each-way on the 50/1 outsider. Venetia Williams CANDY BURG slips in on a rating of 124 but there’s a bit of guesswork involved as he’s only raced once in Britain. He’s won in France and may just sneak a place.

5.30

The Willie Mullins-trained CARTER

McKAY can send punters home smiling, priced around 9/2. A point-to-point winner at Ballynoe last year, he’s shown plenty of promise in his two successful bumpers under Rules todate.
