SSE AIRTRICITY LEAGUE PREVIEWS

- GARRY DOYLE

SHAMROCK ROVERS v CORK CITY

Tallaght Stadium (5.0pm)

League form: Shamrock Rovers WLWLW, Cork City WWWWL

Match odds: Shamrock Rovers 11/4, Cork City Evens, Draw 9/4 Referee: Jim McKell (Tipperary)

Team news: Greg Bolger, who picked up an ankle injury against Sligo Rovers on Monday night, is Cork’s main doubt. On the plus side, John Kavanagh, Alan Bennett and Stephen Dooley are all back in contention. Rovers have Graham Burke back from suspension but a doubt hangs over Paul Corry (knee).

Talking point: Why did Cork not win the league last year? Twenty-six points from 16 away games – as opposed to 44 points from their home matches – explains why. Two wins on the road already this season suggests they’ve sorted out their travel sickness and if they can make that a hat-trick of away wins today in Tallaght, then no one will doubt their capacity to win a first league title in 12 years.

Verdict: Awaywin

BOHEMIANS v GALWAY UNITED

Dalymount Park (7.45pm) League form: Bohs WWLLL, Galway United LDLLL

Match odds: Bohs 13/10, Galway United 2/1, Draw 9/4 Referee: Neil Doyle (Dublin)

Team news: Galway United travel without injured trio – Paul Sinnott (ankle), Pádraic Cunningham (hamstring) and Gavan Holohan (hand). Ian Morris, who was forced off on Monday night with an ankle injury, is a doubt, while Izzy Akinade (recovering from surgery to have his spleen removed) and Eoin Wearen (cruciate) remain out.

Talking point: When Bohs were trailing 2-0 to Bray last Friday, having already lost their first two games of the season, no one could have envisaged the sort of recovery that has lifted them from bottom to seventh. Another win here would bring them level on points with Dundalk, the champions. And they should get that victory, even if Galway’s need is greater.

Verdict: Home win
