I’d Love/Hate to see my co-stars on next ‘Dancing’ series – Denise
‘DANCING with the Stars’ semi-finalist Denise McCormack would love to see former co-stars Peter Coonan and Tom Vaughan-Lawlor tread the boards on the next series of the show.
Dubliner McCormack, who famously starred with Coonan and Vaughan-Lawlor in ‘Love/Hate’, reckons they would both be brilliant competitors on the RTÉ series.
“Peter and Tom, I would absolutely love to see them on it,” she told the Irish Independent. “We would all love to see them, wouldn’t we? I would love to see David Crowley from ‘Red Rock’ do it too. They would love it and I’m going to be telling them all that they should take it on next year.”
McCormack added that her experience on the show had opened her eyes to other areas of acting she previously hadn’t dabbled in, mainly musical theatre.
“Musical theatre wasn’t something I ever explored as my acting trade was very much traditional,” she admitted. “I do think dancing has added another genre which is great. Dancing on stage has so much of my acting experience in it. Ryan (McShane) comes at it from the choreography side and I come from the theatrical side and we just want to create something different.”
This weekend sees all of the semi-finalists take on two full routines each in a bid to make it to the final. Only four celebrities remain on the show – McCormack, Aidan O’Mahony, Aoibhín Garrihy and singer Dayl Cronin.
The pressure is on for McCormack and partner McShane, who last week received a perfect score of 30 points from the judges following their Charleston.
And although she has been juggling a gruelling acting schedule with ‘Red Rock’ and dancing on the series, McCormack certainly does not want to go home.
Competition
“It’s hard enough to do one routine, so everyone is under severe pressure but I absolutely want to be there until the end,” she said. “We are dancing contemporary ballroom to Hozier. I have to say that it really feels like a competition now, it has taken over my life and I’m putting everything into it.”
Whether she wins that glitterball trophy next weekend or not, McCormack is thrilled with the positive impact that dancing has brought to her days.
“It has absolutely changed my life,” she admitted.
“I’m going to continue healthy eating and drinking lots of water and take on some dance classes – I’ll probably need a lot of sleep when it’s all over.”
