On-song O’Mahony praises away form

MUNSTER winger Ronan O’Mahony says the province’s form away from Thomond Park and Irish Independent Park has been a real positive from a bright season.

O’Mahony has been in blistering form for Rassie Erasmus’s side this campaign and has ran in nine tries in his busiest season to date.

But the Garryowen man says that another away win would put the team in a real positive place ahead of next week’s Champions Cup quarter-final at home to Toulouse.

“It is huge. Our record away from home this season has been very good, especially compared to other years which mightn’t have been as good,” said O’Mahony.

“And then maybe we took our home games for granted, like Scarlets, it wasn’t easy for us to come away with a loss there and then bounce back and go away to Cardiff who, on that surface (4G), can be unbelievably dangerous, so we are taking good pride in our away games.”

In an incredibly tight season so far, Munster have only lost three games in the Pro12, but still find themselves trailing league leaders Leinster and second-placed Ospreys in the standings.

And the Limerick winger is hopeful that the Italians will present a few chances to him and his colleagues in the backs as they attempt to bag a couple of tries.

“We have another one this weekend against Zebre and a dry ball there and a lot of their lads hurting after the Six Nations, they can be very dangerous, so we are going to have to be fully prepared going into it.

“If you take your eye off them, that’s when things get dangerous and it would be very unwise for us to do that.

“I know the coaches will be doing a lot of work on Toulouse in the background, but regarding our on-pitch training and focus it is all focused towards Zebre.”
