Irish woman not in serious condition – but man (75) becomes fourth victim of attack

AN Irish woman was among those injured in the terrorist attack in London – while a 75-year-old man has become the fifth person to die following the atrocity.

The latest victim died at King’s College Hospital after his life support was withdrawn last night. He had been taken to the hospital after suffering critical injuries in the terror attack.

Foreign Affairs Minister Charlie Flanagan said that his department, through its Embassy in London, stood ready to provide consular assistance to the Irish victim.

It is understood the injuries sustained by the woman are not considered to be life-threatening.

Taoiseach Enda Kenny spoke to British Prime Minister Theresa May last night about the injured woman.

Meanwhile, another victim, Kurt Cochran, was described as a the hard-working family man who nevertheless lived his dream.

The rock-obsessed American, who ran his own music studio, was enjoying the final day of a trip of a lifetime with his wife to celebrate the couple’s 25th anniversary.

But as dusk fell on Wednesday, Mr Cochran (54) lay dead at the mouth of a concrete underpass beneath Westminster Bridge, while a shattered Melissa (46) was being treated in hospital for a broken leg, ribs and cuts to the head.

It is believed Mr Cochran either jumped from the bridge to avoid Khalid Masood’s rampaging 4x4, or he was pushed.

The couple, who live near Salt Lake City, Utah, had already visited Germany, Holland, Ireland and Scotland and had been excitedly sharing photographs of their trip with friends on social media.

Yesterday, however, a distraught relative, Shantell Payne, used the same platform to break the news of Mr Cochran’s death.

“With a heavy heart I must pass the sad news of our beautiful brother, father, husband, son and friend Kurt Cochran, he could not overcome the injuries he received in the London terror attacks,” she wrote. ‘This pain is so heart wrenching and raw it has rocked our family and all that knew him to its core. We will miss Kurt beyond words.”

A friend said Mr Cochran was extremely generous with his recording studio and would let it out for free to help musicians struggling to build their careers.

“It can be hard when you’ve got responsibilities in daily life to dive into your dream, but he did just that,” said Nate Kizerian. “He gave it all to make it happen and he succeeded.”

Yesterday, US President Donald Trump tweeted: “A great American, Kurt Cochran, was killed in the London terror attack. My prayers and condolences are with his family and friends.”

Mr Kizerian said the attack in London would not deter him from travelling to Britain. “I think if you buy into fear then they win, Isil win,” he said.

Meanwhile, a student was thrown over the bonnet of the killer’s car as the carnage began, his mother has said.

Travis Frain (19) was walking across Westminster Bridge with other youngsters when he was mown down by the car. Seconds later, the politics student, who wants to become an MP, called his mother to say: “Mum I’m safe... I know you will be worrying.”

He suffered a fractured leg, fractured left arm, cuts to his thigh and two broken fingers and was expected to undergo an operation last night at King’s College Hospital, London.

Mr Frain, a politics and history undergraduate, had been with 12 other students from Ormskirk to watch prime minister’s questions in the British parliament.

His mother, Angela Frain (46), from Lancashire, said: “He loves politics, that is his ideal trip, going to Parliament.” (© Daily Telegraph, London)
