DUBLIN Airport has been named as the 10th-best airport in the world, according to a new international survey based on passenger ratings by travel website eDreams.
The rankings were based on more than 65,000 passenger reviews and cover overall airport quality, waiting areas, shopping, and restaurants.
Helsinki-Vantaa was named the world’s best airport, while Berlin Schönefeld was found to be the worst.
Passenger numbers at Dublin Airport increased by 11pc to a record 27.9 million last year. During the first two months of this year, passenger traffic was up 6pc to 3.6 million.
In 2016, Dublin Airport had flights to 185 destinations in 41 different countries. A total of 47 airlines operate out of the airport.
“We are delighted to have been named one of the world’s best 10 airports in this new international study,” said Dublin Airport managing director Vincent Harrison.
“This result is a huge recognition of the daily efforts of all of our employees to make each passenger’s journey as smooth and as pleasant as possible.”
The top five global airports were Helsinki, Glasgow, Zurich, Munich and Frankfurt. Berlin, London Luton, New York La Guardia, New York JFK and Brussels Charleroi were voted as the five worst in the world.
It is the second time in a matter of months Dublin has been recognised, with the airport voted the third best in Europe for customer service.
“We strive to offer our every one of our 28 million passengers the best possible experience when using Dublin Airport,” Mr Harrison added.
Last year, Dublin was found to be the fastest-growing major airport in Europe.
The improvement was assisted by its growth as a gateway between Europe and North America. Transatlantic traffic increased by 16pc to a record 2.9 million passengers last year.
