Former Ireland footballer Duff scores €1.2m windfall from wind-up of firm
DAMIEN Duff has received a pre-tax €1.249m (£1.081m) windfall from the wind-up of his UK commercial firm.
The Dubliner may no longer enjoy the eye-watering weekly wage packets enjoyed by Premier League footballers following his retirement after an illustrious career in the game.
However, the 38-year old former Ireland international can console himself with the €1.249m pre-tax sum he has received from liquidating his UK firm, Lightzest UK.
New documentations lodged with Companies House in the UK show Mr Duff recently received the final tranche of £16,636 of the windfall in advance of the final meeting of members on February 21st of this year.
This followed a previous payout of £1.065m (€1.23m) made in September 2015 and March 2016. Documents lodged at the time of liquidation revealed the firm had a cash pile of £1.1m (€1.27m).
The former Blackburn, Chelsea, Newcastle and Fulham player is now working as a pundit on RTÉ’s soccer coverage and has a coaching role with Shamrock Rovers.
The Dublin club recently announced that Mr Duff has been named as Shamrock Rovers’ new U15 National League head coach. He is to combine his first team duties with a new role in the academy.
Prior to moving back to Ireland where he initially played for Shamrock Rovers, Mr Duff had been plying his trade in Australia.
After signing for Rovers to play, the popular Ballyboden man announced that he would be donating his wages to two charities.
