Players help Alzheimer’s event

THERE was plenty of fun around UL as Munster players and management hosted their very own Alzheimer’s Tea Day in aid of the Alzheimer Society of Ireland, one of Munster’s nominated charities for the season.

Teas, coffees, cakes and selfies were the order of the day as members of the squad served up the sweetest of feasts to those who called in to the Foundation Building in UL.

The day also saw Munster players CJ Stander, Dave Foley and Robin Copeland trade the rugby ball for a spatula in a cake decorating competition – as expected CJ claimed the spoils – while Ian Keatley, Alex Wootton, Jaco Taute, Jack O’Donoghue, Felix Jones and Jerry Flannery all lended their support to this worthy cause.

“We’ve held our Tea Day for Alzheimer in UL, now it’s your turn. So go and put the kettle on,” said Munster and Ireland No 8 Jack O’Donoghue.

Over €1,500 was raised on the day with all monies staying locally to help to fund the services offered by the Alzheimer Society of Ireland (ASI) in Limerick, including day care, home care, dementia adviser and support groups.

“Alzheimer Tea Day is our largest national campaign every year,” said Nikki Keegan, Alzheimer Society of Ireland Fundraising Manager.

“It raises funds for local ASI services around the country. The great thing about Tea Day is that all money that is raised locally, stays locally.”
