SCARLETS’ EVANS FACES BAN FOR PRO12 DECIDER
SCARLETS winger Steff Evans will go before a disciplinary committee tomorrow to determine if he will miss out on Saturday’s Guinness PRO12 final after receiving a red card against Leinster in Friday’s semi-final.
The youngster was sent off for a first-half tip-tackle on Garry Ringrose by referee Marius Mitrea and faces an anxious wait to see if he will be suspended for the Aviva Stadium showpiece against Munster.
A Scottish panel chaired by Roddy Dunlop will hear his case by video link. The Welsh side, who shocked Leinster with a 27-15 win at the RDS, are also without captain Ken Owens who is with the Lions at Carton House rehabilitating his injured ankle.
Alongside him is Leinster’s Robbie Henshaw who says he is throwing himself into the Lions camp to try and erase the memory of Friday’s disappointment.
“It’s certainly taken my mind off the weekend which was obviously a big disappointment for us,” he said.
“This is a distraction and onto this focus, it’s good that we’re in here this week whereas the boys in the province are in training for the week and have a tough week of training ahead of them.
“It’s just really frustrating, little errors that wouldn’t be like us.
“We coughed the ball up way too easily in the first half. The amount of ball-handling errors was uncharacteristic of us.
“There were a lot of learnings to take from it. I’m sure the boys will go through it tomorrow when they get together.”
