Tributes for Irishman (30) found dead on stag party trip

TRIBUTES have been paid to a man who died while at a stag party in Portugal with his friends.

Daryl Dargan (30) was found dead by friends who were staying with him in an apartment in the popular resort of Albufeira in the south of the country.

It is understood the group had travelled to Portugal last Friday.

His brother has now set up a GoFundMe page to raise funds to repatriate his body.

Mr Dargan (inset) had previously worked as a barman and was from the Lakeglen area of Portlaoise, Co Laois.

A close friend, who did not want to be named, told the

Irish Independent he will be sadly missed.

“He was a person that everybody loved,” she said.

“He had an infectious smile and he would do anything to help anybody at the drop of a hat.

“He’s going to be truly missed by everybody from the estate in which he lived and by the people of Portlaoise.

“We all hope we can get him home to his family through the GoFundMe page that we have set up and that we can give him the send-off that he truly deserves.”

Local Labour councillor Noel Tuohy said the community in Portlaoise is extremely saddened by the news.

“You just have to feel sorry for the family.

“They are decent people so it’s not easy for them.

“The whole community feels for them at this very sad time. I just want to offer my condolences to them,” he said.

Mr Dargan is survived by his two parents, his two brothers and sister.

He was interested in soccer and was an avid fan of Manchester United. “Very sad news to be hearing this today, we always had the banter together. God bless you,” one friend wrote online.

“RIP to a great friend and work mate. Will miss you bud... sleep tight until we meet again,” a former work colleague posted on social media

Mr Dargan had been staying at the Alto do Moinho apartments in the holiday resort. An autopsy due to take place in nearby Faro is expected to reveal the cause of death.

The Policia Judiciaria in Faro confirmed it was investigating but declined to release any more details. The Department of Foreign Affairs told the Irish Independent it is aware of the case and is ready to provide consular assistance.
