Soldiers on British streets as terror stalks a country

-

SOLDIERS are on the streets of British cities and the terror threat level is at its highest of “critical”, meaning more attacks may be imminent.

The fallout from the Manchester bombing continues as the names of the 22 people killed continue to emerge. The 64 people injured continue to be treated in hospitals across a city that has distinguished itself with the immense response to this disaster.

Crime scene photos show suicide bomber Salman Abedi carried his bomb in a rucksack triggered with a sophisticated detonator held in his left hand.

Police found the remains of the bomb’s casing, together with a high quality 12-volt battery and a trigger device contained a small circuit board soldered into one end.

The evidence discovered in the foyer of the Manchester Arena helps to explain why the security services are so convinced Abedi was part of a wider terrorist cell, as the level of expertise needed to build such a device points to an expert bomb-maker who could still be at large.

Experts say the detonator’s design points to a remotecontrol element built into the trigger as a fail-safe.

It would have allowed an accomplice to detonate the device if Abedi lost his nerve.

Police say they are investigating a “network” and a fifth man has been arrested over the bombing on Monday night.

The British intelligence services are now working to ensure there are no follow-up attacks. In this new age of terror, it’s hard to combat fanatics without a conscience.
