Rosanna’s father-in-law hits jackpot

ROSANNA Davison’s fatherin-law, Richard Quirke, hit the jackpot last year as accumulate­d profits at his amusement arcade and casino business rose to €23.4m.

New accounts filed by Mr Quirke’s firm, Dublin Pool and Juke Box Co Ltd, show that accumulate­d profits increased from €22.3m to €23.4m in the 12 months to the end of June 30 last.

The accounts show that Mr Quirke’s firm has a strong balance sheet with total shareholde­r funds at €32.2m. Mr Quirke is the businessma­n behind the €480m plans for a major developmen­t, including a casino, at Two Mile Borris in Co Tipperary. Planning was granted for a modified plan in February 2013.

Mr Quirke’s arcade firm operates Dr Quirky’s on Dublin’s O’Connell St that features over 400 slot machines in the casino area where players can also play poker, roulette and blackjack.

Opened since 1992, Dr Quirky’s also boasts to being one of the leading gaming arcades in Europe with 20,000 sq ft in its entertainm­ent area.

The accounts show that remunerati­on for Richard Quirke and Anne Quirke last year remained at €213,000. Rosanna Davison, who is married to Wesley Quirke, is carving out a lucrative career as a lifestyle writer.

According to figures from Nielsen Bookscan, she has recorded a successful start to her career as a food writer with her first two books clocking up over €300,000 in sales here.

Neilsen Bookscan captures around 80pc of bookseller­s here, and Ms Davison’s debut number one bestseller, ‘Eat Yourself Beautiful’, sold 10,605 copies.
