Winter a good thing for Guineas double

- Johnny Ward

TAKE Winter to supplement her Newmarket success in the Tattersalls Irish 1,000 Guineas tomorrow.

Having moved to Aidan O’Brien from David Wachman, she progressed physically over the winter – appropriately enough – and she was brilliant at Newmarket. Ryan Moore takes over the ride, and she looks utterly straightforward, near-impossible to pick a hole in.

Rehana, from the Michael Halford stable, has her big day, but she has an awful lot to find to trouble Winter.

With no Minding in the Tattersalls Gold Cup, it has a more open look, and there could be a bit of value in backing Johannes

Vermeer. He travelled nicely behind Minding and Moonlight Magic at Naas, a race out of which he is sure to progress.

The Airlie Stud Gallinule Stakes can go to Red Label. The manner of how he travelled on his first start for Jessica Harrington was highly encouraging and he can probably only improve.

Commander Grigio can continue the decent season of the Fozzy Stack stable after a pleasing debut at the Curragh. He can take the opener. Mujaazy, a daughter of New Approach, can defy an absence in the FBD Hotels & Resorts Castleknock Hotel Spring Fillies Handicap. A mark of 84 looks there to be exploitable.

Denise O’Shea has a nice horse in Supreme Vinnie and the fact Pat Smullen rides is a positive. Note the Frankel filly Europium in the penultimate race, while

Katiymann makes plenty of appeal in the finale.
