Corcoran deepens Galway problems

GALWAY UNITED were plunged into deeper relegation trouble and Bohs took another step towards European football as Dinny Corcoran found the net against the Tribesmen again.

On St Patrick’s Day the 28-year-old striker scored when these sides drew and he again found the target against Galway at Eamonn Deacy Park last night.

Bohs led 2-0 at the break when Lorcan Fitzgerald hit a cracking volley just before the break.

Galway were given hope when Ronan Murray hit back but they were unable to secure a point.

Galway manager Shane Keegan made four changes to his side after their 2-0 defeat at Shamrock Rovers on Monday but the hosts didn’t respond early on.

It was all about Corcoran early on here and he scored after just five minutes.

Lee Grace gave the ball away and a smart cross from Fitzgerald was helped on by Keith Ward before Corcoran finished below the reaches of Conor Winn.

Galway were frustrated for the rest of the opening quarter but Murray – who scored the equaliser at Dalymount in March – was a constant threat.

Bohs goalkeeper Shane Supple palmed away one of Murray’s efforts in the 20th minute but Galway fell further behind nine minutes before half-time. This time Fitzgerald popped up unmarked on the far post to hammer a George Poynton volley into the net.

Bohemians looked steady but in the 55th minute Murray scored with a tremendous free-kick after Gavin Holohan was fouled. But that was it and Bohemians held on.
