JUST DESERTS FOR UNBEATEN DONOVAN

ERIC DONOVAN indulged himself in a rare treat yesterday morning after recording the fourth win of his pro career at Dublin’s National Stadium the evening before – the ex-Irish Elite champion had Maltesers in his Coco Pops.

The unbeaten Kildare feather dropped and stopped durable Hungarian Laszlo Horvath at the home of Irish boxing with a body shot in the fourth, but Ireland’s 2010 European Elite medallist admitted the Magyar puncher was tough.

“I thought he was gone after I dropped him twice in the second, I didn’t think he’d get up but he got back up. He definitely came to fight and not to pick up a pay cheque, said Donovan.

“He came out like a new man in the third. I said to myself you have to be careful here and don’t gas out. I could feel the force of his punches when I was blocking them. He was definitely the most experienced pro I’ve been in again, a huge learning experience for me.

“I was happy with my performance. I celebrated with Maltesers in my Coco Pops this morning, I don’t usually have Maltesers in my cereal, but what the heck, I’m 4 and 0 now!”

Ireland’s Lynn Harvey, Rohan Date, Ger Whitehouse and debutants, John Joyce, Regan Buckley, Liam Gaynor, Keane McMahon, John Corcoran and Stephen McAfee also won on the 15-bout card at the Stadium.

Mel Christle, President of the Boxing Union of Ireland, praised the quality of the match-making on the Celtic Clash 2 card.
