5 Bookville: Inaugural county-wide children’s and family festival focusing on reading, writing, storytelli­ng, comedy, illustrati­on and the visual arts, using the county library network and October Kilkenny 11–15. Arts Office.

6 Kilkenny Field Names and Project: training Supporting­local communitie­s to record and map field names. Ongoing.

7 MacDonagh Famine Experience: Community arts project to raise awareness of the human stories at Kilkenny Workhouse at MacDonagh Junction Shopping Centre. Ongoing.

8 Medieval Mile Museum: Located in St Mary’s Church and Graveyard where the county’s gentry were buried, this is considered one of the most important Renaissanc­e tombs in Europe. Ongoing.

9 Kilkenny Arts Festival: Among this year’s highlights are Stephen Rea in Oscar Wilde’s De Profundis; an extensive programme of works by Schubert and concerts commemorat­ing Handel’s visits to Ireland. August 1120. www.kilkennyar­ts.ie

10 Author visits: As part of the Bookville festival, writers such as Judy Curtin and Alan Nolan will be reading from their work.
