Towell considers loan options to kick-start career

- Daniel McDonnell

BLACKBURN, Burton Albion and Barnsley have emerged as possible destinations for Brighton’s Richie Towell as he plots a loan move to kick-start his career in England.

The midfielder has been told he can spend the season elsewhere by his manager Chris Hughton and he does have the security of a new contract from the Premier League side.

He had planned to find a loan club in July but progress has been slow, although there have been a number of enquiries.

It’s understood that Championship pair Burton Albion and Barnsley, and League One promotion-chasers Blackburn Rovers have expressed a tentative interest in Towell. Their divisional rivals MK Dons and Charlton are also in the frame.

Towell made just three appearances for Brighton’s first team last term, with two of those coming in the FA Cup.

Meanwhile, Towell’s former club Dundalk are making efforts to try and tie down players for next season but defender Niclas Vemmelund is keeping his cards close to his chest.

The Dane has confirmed that Dundalk have offered him a new deal – his agent put the news on social media last week – but he refused to be drawn on his future after Sunday’s 4-0 win over his old club Derry City.
