Get lunch back on the menu

-

I’VE always loved a good brunch. Even before the days of smashed avocados on toast and lobster frittatas, I was a convert to a simple Eggs Benedict and Bloody Mary of a weekend. But that was before it became as ubiquitous as bad contouring at a Kardashian family get-together. So much so, in fact, I struggled last weekend to find somewhere to meet a friend for lunch – that meal between breakfast and dinner that now seems confined to weekdays?

Every menu I checked told me that while I was welcome to enjoy an overpriced fry or a pimped porridge, lunch was simply out of the question. But I didn’t want something eggy straddling the breakfast-lunch fence, I wanted a nice lunch – you remember, it’s like dinner, but somewhat lighter and less fussy. So that’s it. Listen up, all you bottomless-mimosa quaffers, we have reached peak brunch and I, for one, am out. Like a carelessly poached egg, it’s SO over.
