‘People can’t believe it when I say my leather jacket was €59 in Lidl’

- Amy Mulvaney

SUPERMODEL Heidi Klum has teamed up with Lidl to release a capsule collection – and I had an exclusive look at the most coveted piece.

News of the collaboration between the German fashion designer and bargain supermarket was equal parts surprising and intriguing.

With prices ranging between €5.99 and €59.99 for the collection, including shoes, coats and jeans, I put the stand-out piece to the test.

I automatically presumed that the jacket would be faux. Yet, after inspection of the product label, I was proven wrong as the outer material is 100pc real leather.

It’s a biker style with a slim fit that feels comfortable yet structured. The suede leather is soft but hardy, and is the perfect balance between being luxurious and hard-wearing. Unlike many biker jackets, it doesn’t feature any belts or buckles that hang out of place and, honestly, I can’t think of anything that can be improved. Of course, a leather jacket with a suede finish requires a certain level of care, but after wearing the jacket over the past week, which included throwing it into my handbag and walking in the rain, I haven’t had any issues with the material being tarnished in any way. It’s practical, warm and stylish. Not to mention, it can be dressed up or down and matches nearly everything, from jeans to skirts, to dresses and trousers. While €59.99 is by no means an amount of money that many can spend mindlessly, it’s undoubtedly a good investment for the coming autumn/winter. Although I originally began wearing this jacket as part of this trial, I’ve continued to wear it as my jacket of choice for day-to-day – and I’ve never received so many compliments. People are unable to hide their shock when I grin and tell them it’s from Lidl, and that in itself is pretty satisfying. Get ready to queue outside Lidl when the collection launches on September 18 – I know I’ll be there to buy the black version.
