Galbraith makes solid start to gruelling Q-School exam
WHITEHEAD star John-Ross Galbraith made a solid start in his bid to earn a European Tour card with an opening round of two-under-par 70 at the first stage qualifying school event over the Roxburghe course in Scotland.
The Irish international began well with a birdie on the second and had five in total during his round, which also included three bogeys.
That gives him a good platform from which to build in the next three rounds as he bids for a place in stage two.
DECENT
Galbraith has enjoyed a decent year and was part of the Ireland team that won the Men’s Home Internationals for an unprecedented fourth straight year.
He heads into this morning’s second round four strokes behind Denmark’s Rasmus Hjelm, who set the pace with a sparkling 66.
Mark Whelan and Colm Moriarty signed for a one-overpar 73s, while Joe Dillon has work to do after shooting a 77.
Meanwhile, at the corresponding event at Fleesensee in Germany, Mount Juliet’s Stephen Grant also made a decent start with a one-underpar 71.
The former professional footballer, who turned 40 back in April, shot four birdies, but also had three bogeys, including two in a row on 17 and 18.
Local Jonas Koelbing set the pace with a scorching sevenunder-par 65.
Galbraith, Grant and Co are among 893 entrants who have signed up for the first of a gruelling two-month three-stage European Tour qualification process, culminating with a six-rounder at Lumine in Spain in November.
