Young actors get chance to be new on-screen Artemis Fowl

BUDDING young actors could get their big break as casting for the lead role in the new film ‘Artemis Fowl’ is about to get under way.

Lucy Bevan Casting is on the hunt for a boy aged between nine and 13 of any ethnicity who either has an Irish accent or can imitate one.

Based on the best-selling series of science fiction books by Irish author Eoin Colfer, the upcoming film adaptation will be distribute­d by Disney, with Belfast native Kenneth Branagh slated to direct.

Colfer has previously said he would like Saoirse Ronan (inset) to play one of the lead roles in the big-screen adaptation.

It has also been rumoured that prominent Holly wood producer Harvey Weinstein is involved in the project. The series follows the adventures of Artemis Fowl, a 12-year-old criminal mastermind who is also warm-hearted and highly perceptive. The film is said to be based on the first two books in the series, which follow Artemis as he kidnaps a fairy for ransom, thwarts a goblin rebellion and rescues his father. Applicants for the role must be submitted by a parent or legal guardian. Auditions will be held in Galway on September 29 and 30, Dublin on October 1, and Cork on October 14.
