Twins peak as eight pairs of students collect their results
IT was smiles on the double for eight sets of twins attending the same school who collected their Junior Certificate exam results.
The 16 boys and girls, dressed in their school uniforms, filed into Coláiste Íde agus Iosef, Abbeyfeale, Co Limerick, around 10.30am. Among them were 15-year-old twin brothers David and Jack O’Connor, from Athea, Co Limerick.
Both agreed being twins has helped keep each other motivated. “If I’m stuck on a sum in maths, [Jack] can help me and vice versa, it’s great,” quipped David.
“It’s good having him around,” added Jack.
Twin sisters Noelle and Michelle Curtin, from Templeglantine, were “delighted” their hard work paid off.
Noelle, who wants to follow a career in sports science, and Michelle, who wants to go into nursing, joked of a healthy rivalry between them in getting the best results.
Meanwhile, twin brother and sister Christopher and Chloe Lane, from over the county border in Brosna, Co Kerry, said they were excited to be moving to the next stage of school.
“I did good, in fairness. It was hard work but it paid in the end. I was studying since straight after Christmas. I’m hoping to do mechanical engineering. I was nervous earlier but it’s all OK now,” said Christopher.
Animal lover Chloe, who hopes to be a veterinary nurse, was beaming after receiving an ‘A’ in maths. It was a proud day too for Christopher and Chloe’s dad, Pat, who waited for them outside school.
Wiping away tears, he said: “I’m very happy and delighted with them. They worked hard, the both of them, and it’s a brilliant achievement.”
School principal Liam Murphy praised all the 129 pupils who received their results.
“It certainly is a unique, very special day for the school, 16 students, eight sets of twins, it’s a really remarkable story.
“It’s a happy day, as well as being an unusual day to have so many twins in one particular year.
“We’re delighted for them.”
