Hudson says C-section ‘laziest thing she’s ever done’

- Nick Allen Washington

KATE HUDSON, the Hollywood actress who won hearts in romantic comedies, has offended mothers everywhere by saying the “laziest” thing she’s ever done was to have a Caesarean birth.

The star was asked to fill out a questionnaire for a cover interview for the October issue of ‘Cosmopolitan’.

Her answers were innocuous until she reached the question: “What’s the laziest thing you’ve ever done?”

Hudson, a 38-year-old mother-of-two, scrawled “Have a C-Section!” It may have been a bad joke but the wrath from mothers on social media was swift and fierce, even leading to fears there could be backlash against her movies.

On Twitter, Hudson was accused of making a “stupid” remark as women who have undergone C-sections reminded her that it is major surgery.

Others said C-sections are often carried out in emergencies and had saved the lives of their children. Hudson, the daughter of Goldie Hawn, had her son Ryder, now 13, in 2004 after marrying Chris Robinson, singer with The Black rock band.

They divorced in 2007 and three years later she had a second son, Bingham, with British musician Matt Bellamy of the band Muse.

Her first son was delivered by C-section while her second son was not.

In an interview about her first son’s birth, the actress said: “I was going to get induced because he was so big. Then I wasn’t dilating. I was in labour. My contractions were two to five minutes apart but I couldn’t feel anything.

“The doctor said I could go home, but we were being stalked by photographers. We went in at midnight and I said ‘I am not going home. I just don’t want to do this again. Let’s just have a C-section’. And so I got drugged up.”

Latest figures show more than a quarter of women in the UK now have C-sections, which is almost triple the number 30 years ago.

Hudson has yet to comment on the furore caused by her comments.
