CLONMEL COVERS

-

Based in Co Tipperary, Clonmel Covers was established by Seamus Phelan in 1990. Phelan, who has a background in the transport industry, saw a niche in the market to provide waterproof covers for trailers and other accessories in the haulage industry.

Having quickly established themselves, Clonmel Covers soon started manufacturing products for other sectors, including farming, leisure, construction, transport and pharmaceutical.

“From its humble beginnings, Clonmel Covers has become one of the largest manufacturers of waterproof covers in Ireland to-date,” says Seamus Phelan, Managing Director. “We manufacture a large range of customised products, such as truck and skip covers, EasyFit Windbreaker, boat and machine covers.

“We not only manufacture products but, we consult with our customers and design a product that suits their needs. We do this by constant investment in state-of-the-art premises, equipment and customer-focused staff. The positive exposure via word-of-mouth, a high presence on digital media, and our stands at various trade shows keeps Clonmel Covers’ name prominent in people’s minds when they require an Irish waterproof product.”

Guaranteed Irish has brought an extra resource for the company who felt they wanted to show off their Irishness.

“The only other main supplier of windbreakers in Ireland was an English-based company,” continues Phelan. “We felt that given the option, the farmers in Ireland would prefer to buy a local Irish product. The most visible way to show this was to have the Guaranteed Irish mark associated with it.

“From its establishment, Clonmel Covers believed that a lot of the products we see can be manufactured in Ireland, sometimes to a higher standard. Irish people want to buy Irish-made products, thus creating employment and boosting the local economy.

“Having the Guaranteed Irish mark highlights a product for people. We have seen this first-hand with our EasyFit Windbreaker at our stand at the National Ploughing Championships. The positive feedback we get for our product is enhanced because it is seen to be an Irish product and the public really appreciates that.”
