Winners’ party plan already put in place

- Claire Murphy

IT’S 66 years since Mayo last won an All Ireland, so it’s no wonder the excitement is building, with plans for the party to end all parties.

The county will come to a grinding halt should Stephen Rochford’s men emerge victorious – and here is just a taste of what will be in store.

The Breaffy House Hotel has released details of the Mayo celebrations – and the crowds will be out in huge numbers if Sam Maguire is in tow.

The team is due to arrive back at Castlebar train station at 4.52pm on Monday, before a 6pm McHale Park reception.

This will be followed by an open-top bus tour through the main street of Castlebar between 8pm and 9pm, arriving at Breaffy House before 10pm.

It adds: “The team will not be allowed to stop anywhere in town after they leave McHale Park.

“There will be a motorbike escort and Castlebar town band will parade through the main street. Extra motorbike escorts will meet the bus and bring it straight to Breaffy Resort.

“The team will be escorted to front door of Breaffy House Hotel,” the statement said.

The function in the ballroom of the Breaffy House Hotel will be strictly private for the Mayo team, backroom staff and officials.

The supporters will be entertained at the Breaffy Events Arena in the Breaffy Woods Hotel from 9pm until late, with DJ Tommy Elliott and the Concorde Band due to play.
