A mews in Dun Laoghaire

-

SYDENHAM Mews is a cul-de-sac off Corrig Avenue in Dun Laoghaire, and you have to go through security gates to get to it — a feat that the Google Street View van could not accomplish.

What’s more, the entrance is directly across the street from Dun Laoghaire garda station, so the security here is belt and braces.

‘Silver Howe’ is an architectdesigned mews house at the end of the cul-de-sac, built in 2000 with an innovative layout. It’s on three f loors and split-level, so the 1,528 sq ft floor area is complicated and quirky.

An open-tread stairs with iron railings runs between the levels, so the light streams through the house.

The ground floor has the three bedrooms, including the master bedroom which has an en suite shower and doors to a deck in the garden. Also on this level is the garage, with double doors to the front.

The first floor is an open-plan arrangement with a living room, dining room and kitchen. The living room is dual-aspect and has floor-toceiling windows. The dining room has exposed ceiling beams and is open to the kitchen, where there’s a glazed roof and French doors to a balcony.

The top floor is a mezzanine consisting of a third reception room, with railings separating it from the living areas below.

The layout of the garden is as pleasantly eccentric as that of the house, with stairs going up and down its three levels.

Below the deck at ground level is a walled garden with flower beds and a water feature, surrounded by flowering shrubs.

At the top is the balcony with rooftop views.

Silver Howe is about 300 metres from George’s Street Upper and ten minutes’ walk from the Dart station.

It’s for sale for €850,000 with Sherry FitzGerald Dun Laoghaire, (01) 284 4422.
