Clubs return to league action

CORK CON kick off their Ulster Bank League Division 1A campaign with a repeat of last season’s final at Temple Hill, where they clash with Clontarf tomorrow.

Revenge will be on the mind for the Dublin outfit after their 25-21 defeat in the 2016-’17 final at the Aviva Stadium last May.

Cork Con won their first league title since 2010 and Young Munster are a fellow Munster outfit looking to win the Ulster Bank League for the first time in 25 years.

They start off against UCD at Tom Clifford Park, while Limerick rivals Garryowen are away to St Mary’s College at Templeville Road.

In Division 1B, UL Bohs couldn’t do enough to secure promotion last season when they finished third – they begin 2017-’18 against Banbridge at UL on Saturday.

Elsewhere, Dolphin welcome Naas to Irish Independent Park and UCC are at home to Shannon in the Munster derby in Mardyke.

In Division 2A, Highfield will be aiming for promotion to the second tier after they finished third last season. They start their campaign with a home tie against Blackrock College in Woodleigh Park.

Nenagh Ormond finished one place behind Highfield last term and begin with a home clash against Malone at New Ormond Park. Cashel host the relegated Galwegians at Spafield.

In Division 2B, Old Crescent make the difficult journey to face Rainey OB in Hatrick Park tomorrow. Sunday’s Well are also on the road for their game with MU Barnhall in Parsonstown.

In the bottom tier, three Munster sides begin their season at home – Bruff face Omagh at Killballyowen Park. It’s Midleton versus Seapoint at Towns Park and Thomond against Sligo in Liam Fitzgerald Park.
