Corey’s commitment to rugby remains non-stop

-

COREY CARTY, CCRO (Club Community Rugby Officer) has been the face of Leinster Rugby in Wexford Wanderers for the last three years. With a massively wide brief of 16 national schools and six secondary, working with and supporting the fantastic programmes run by Fran Ronan of Wexford County Council, supporting the coaches of Wanderers and being heavily involved in the South East Development Pathway, you would wonder how one man manages so much!

Corey’s days are as diverse as you could imagine and all about providing the opportunity to play and become part of the rugby family.

“I will be in schools for the whole day working with kids that range in ages from 6-18 and the standard of player ranges from the elite, soon-tobe Leinster Youths players to special needs players. I think that’s the great thing about rugby, there is a place in the game for everyone.

“After school I’ll head home to relax for a short time before heading out again to coach the South East Development Squad. This is made up of the best rugby players currently in the south east at U-16 level.”

Asked for his favourite part of the job, the role of supporting the players’ development becomes apparent.

“I think the best part of the job is coaching players that go on to wear the blue jersey. I’ve been very lucky to say that I’ve coached players that have gone on to represent Ireland and that makes me incredibly proud.”

Corey’s desire is to continue the development of Wexford Wanderers and Wexford County Council to make sure the next group of players are part of Leinster Rugby.

But his ambition doesn’t rest there.

“I think my future will be always based around rugby. If I don’t end up the Head Coach for Leinster maybe I’ll end up the Head of Marketing!”

He’ll be a busy man and we wish him the best with it all.
