GARDA commissioner Nóirín O’Sullivan stepped down from her post, leaving the Government in turmoil and plunging An Garda Síochána deeper into crisis. Ms O’Sullivan’s shock announcement came just before 6pm on Sunday and officials said the Justice Minister Charlie Flanagan and Taoiseach Leo Varadkar were told of her departure only hours earlier.
