RICCI UNDECIDED OVER THOMAS HOBSON’S MELBOURNE CUP INTENTIONS

-

WILLIE MULLINS’ Thomas Hobson has been talked up as a contender for this year’s Melbourne Cup but owner Rich Ricci is not committing to a trip to Australia just yet after he finished second in yesterday’s Doncaster Cup behind Desert Skyline.

“He ran very well. It was always going to be tough giving Desert Skyline 12lb, but it was a good run. He certainly ran better than the last day, which is good,” said Ricci.

“I don’t know about Melbourne, I’ll talk to Ryan (Moore) and Willie.”

Music Box (8/1), trained by Aidan O’Brien and having her 17th start this year, won the fillies’ Group Three Sceptre Stakes under Moore, who ended the day with a treble.

He also guided Heartache (6/4) to victory in the Flying Childers Stakes, and struck again aboard Pivoine (9/4 favourite) for Michael Stoute in the Coopers Classified Stakes.
