PSG ‘REST’ NEYMAR FOLLOWING BRAZILIAN’S PENALTY BUST-UP WITH CAVANI

-

NEYMAR has been omitted from Paris St-Germain’s squad for tonight’s Ligue 1 match against Montpellier.

The Brazilian, a world-record €222m signing from Barcelona this summer, was involved in a bust-up with Edinson Cavani over which of them should take a penalty in the 2-0 win over Lyon last weekend.

Cavani saw his effort saved by Anthony Lopes, with Neymar walking away shaking his head in disgust.

The Brazilian unfollowed Cavani on Instagram – fanning the flames from the fall-out – but ‘L’Equipe’ report that the former Barcelona ace issued a grovelling apology to his teammates at training on Wednesday, with countryman and skipper Thiago Silva acting as translator.

But now, he has been ruled out of the Montpellier clash with a minor foot injury – despite training on Thursday when the feuding pair were photographed together.

PSG head coach Unai Emery tried to play down the pair’s problems, suggesting that Neymar (right) will be rested for the trip to the Stade de la Mosson to ensure that he is fully fit for next week’s mouthwatering Champions League clash with Bayern Munich.

He told a press conference: “The atmosphere is great in the dressing-room. It’s true that there are characters and cultures. We can pay attention to that, but the atmosphere is good. The players are competitors who want the best for the team and, after that, for themselves.” However, Emery gave an equivocal answer when he was asked who will take penalties in future. “Here, the two penaltytakers are Cavani and Neymar. Both players are capable of taking them. Who is number one? The important thing is to put it in the back of the net.” PSG, who could welcome back Angel di Maria from injury and Marco Verratti from suspension, have swept all before them this season and six wins from six have given them a three-point lead in Ligue 1.
