VideoDoc receives €2.5m cash boost

- Ellie Donnelly

HEALTH technology business VideoDoc is to create 30 new jobs over the next 12 months following a €2.5m investment.

The company also confirmed the appointment of former Tánaiste and health Minister Mary Harney as its chairwoman. Dr Conor O’Hanlon, a founding member of the Irish College of General Practitioners, has been appointed medical director.

The company provides an app and website that allows patients to consult with their doctor or see a VideoDoctor through an online video platform.

It says users’ data is encrypted and stored securely at all times.

Part of the €2.5m investment will be allocated to the recruitment of GPs in Ireland and the UK to ensure that, as the service grows, the waiting time to see a doctor will remain at its current time of under three minutes.

Ms Harney said she was “delighted” to be appointed and said e-health has unlocked huge potential across several tech-embracing countries.

“I believe that online consultations are not a replacement for the well-established GP service that currently exists across Ireland and the UK, but rather complement and support it,” Ms Harney added.

The company, which was founded in 2014, has partnerships with several high-profile health providers across Ireland including VHI, Beaumont Hospital, Group Schemes in Ireland, and Clanwilliam Healthcare.

In the UK the company is a partner of the National Health Service.
