The many mysteries around Trump
TRUMP AND RUSSIA – SEX, SPIES AND SCANDAL CHANNEL4, TONIGHT, 11PM
DURING his time as Channel 4’s Washington correspondent, Matt Frei developed a well-earned reputation for being caustic and rather less than deferential to the people he interviewed.
In fact, we saw that during his interview with Hillary Clinton the other night when he asked her if she was still intent on blaming others, rather than herself, for her shambolic election showing.
But while he may have enjoyed toying with Clinton, she is now nothing more than an irritating irrelevance who keeps on reappearing, like the political equivalent of acid reflux, whereas Trump is the big game that every hunter wants to take down.
Frei gets his chance tonight with Trump And Russia – Sex, Spies and Scandal (Channel 4, 10pm) when he jets between Washington and Moscow to ascertain the truth about secret dossiers, unverified sex scandals, spooks and charlatans and all the other ugly rumours about Trump being little more than a puppet for Putin.
One of the more baffling elements of all the allegations surrounding Trump and his apparent Russian organ grinder is that the two of them don’t seem to like each other very much and while there’s no doubt that all sorts of rum coves were involved in last year’s election, nobody has been able to conjure up any hard evidence, let along a smoking gun.
Will Frei fare any better? Well, unless he has a massive exclusive that he’s been keeping a secret, that’s unlikely. But I’m sure he’ll have a fine time trying...
If you knew nothing about boxing other than the recent Mayweather v McGregor farce in Vegas, you’d be forgiven for thinking that the sport is so beyond moral redemption that they might as well just scrap the whole thing. Hell, plenty of people who have loved boxing all their life felt that way by the time McGregor was stopped.
But there are still plenty of inspirational figures in the game and the recent fight between Anthony Joshua and Wladimir Klitschko was a truly awe-inspiring contest, fought between two giants of the game who, refreshingly, treated each other with mutual respect. Anthony Joshua - The Fight Of My Life (BBC1, tonight, 11.40) is a diary of his build up to that immense fight.
Lyme disease is one of those things that people hear about but never really pay much attention to – until they succumb to it, of course.
Caused by the bite of an infected tick, it can have a catastrophic and utterly debilitating impact on the sufferer, and Living With Lyme Disease (RTÉ One, 10.40pm) talks to Irish patients and doctors about the condition.
