Tigers seek first win against Castres

- Declan Rooney

WITH Munster in the throes of their Champions Cup campaign all focus has switched from domestic to European rugby, but against Racing 92 they face a significant test at Thomond Park.

Racing 92 are currently the only team in Pool 5 with a win to their name after their four-point triumph over Leicester Tigers last weekend at Stade Yves

Du Manoir.

They had the brilliance of former Glasgow Warriors lock Leone Nakarawa to thank in particular for their victory as his stunning tryscoring performance, which featured ten amazing offloads, helped his side to the four points. He will be a real danger man for Munster this weekend.

Things had started so well for Tigers who took an early lead when Luke Hamilton scored after three minutes, but Nakarawa, Bernard le Roux and Teddy Thomas got tries to push Racing into a powerful position.

Jonny May hit back for Leicester before the break, but a tight secondhalf that featured just one successful penalty kick each meant the win was Racing’s and Tigers had to be satisfied with a losing bonus point.

While Munster host Racing, Tigers welcome Castres to Welford Road as both teams seek a first win of the competition. Currently one point better off in the standings after their draw with Munster, it will be interesting to see how Castres approach this away fixture, which kicks off at 5.30pm, the same time as Munster’s game.
