LEICESTER JOB MAY BE PERFECT FIT FOR DYCHE

-

BURNLEY manager Sean Dyche may be waiting for a phonecall from Leicester City.

He will not admit it, of course, and I would never question his commitment to Burnley where he has performed fantastically well. But deep down, Dyche must be asking himself if Leicester do not show interest in him over the next few days, what is his next career move if he wants to get to the top in management?

I feel Dyche and Leicester are an ideal fit. I would go further and suggest for Dyche to advance, Leicester might be the only realistic Premier League destination.

Where else can he go from Burnley? I do not believe any of the established top six Premier League clubs would appoint him at this moment, while others in the tier below – Southampton and Everton, for example – set their sights on managers with a different playing style.

At Leicester, Dyche’s approach can work. He could evolve his successful methods with a bigger budget, in a more impressive stadium, working for owners with higher ambitions than retaining Premier League status.

The only doubt he might have is how long he would get given how ruthless the Leicester owners are.

Craig Shakespeare is the third successive Leicester manager to be contentiously dismissed, although given the circumstances when he got the job he can not have too many complaints, or be too shocked.

If Dyche is approached, there will be an element of risk leaving a club where he would have a job for life, given time to build a club, rewarding an astute boardroom who did not believe a change was needed when Burnley were relegated after Dyche’s first promotion.

But Leicester looks like the kind of challenge Dyche needs. He will have to cut the cord at Turf Moor eventually.

If he were to succeed at The King Power, he would then become a genuine contender the next time the England job becomes vacant. (© Daily Telegraph, London)
