Trouper Tubridy on road for ‘Late Late Toy Show’
RYAN Tubridy has revealed he’s going to stay on ‘The Late Late Show’ for at least another year so he can reach the milestone decade mark.
The broadcaster has been now fronting the show for his ninth year but he said he would like to get another season under his belt.
“We’ve got to go 10 years, complete the decade and after that, we’ll see,” he told the Irish Independent.
He is travelling the country this week seeing the nation’s most talented youngsters being put through their paces as they audition to appear on the annual ‘The Late Late Toy Show’ extravaganza. RTÉ opened the applications for audience tickets to attend the show yesterday morning. Last year saw a massive 140,000 applications being made for just 200 tickets from viewers desperate to sit in on the Yuletide special.
The demand for tickets is so high, though, that the RTÉ site crashed within minutes due to the volume of traffic.
“It doesn’t surprise me that that’s happened,” Tubridy said. “I think the show is all about good vibes and everyone just wants to have the rainbow and unicorn experience. I think I’m hyper, the kids are hyper, everyone just gets completely hyper.
“But as I said on my radio show, the tickets are available online. Please do not come up to me in my local SuperValu going, ‘Any chance of some tickets to the Toy Show Ryan? ’”
The 44-year-old was in Cork yesterday sitting in on the first batch of auditions and he said it was “such a buzz” seeing the children performing in the hope of getting onto the Christmas special. The auditions are invitation-only with the young performers drawn from thousands of applications.
“There was a whole troupe of ballerinas, the cutest guitar player and a drummer straight out of a 1970s trippy band,” said Tubridy.
