Promising Burgundy Boy can build on his previous big-race experience
THE big Group action takes place across the water – but cast your eye over Leopardstown where there’s a few good betting opportunities, particularly on BURGUNDY BOY, which was chalked up at 7/1 early doors for the Group Three TheTote.com Eyrefield Stakes (4.15).
On paper, his fourth place of six in a similar race here in July is not too impressive, but he was only three lengths behind the winner The Pentagon, which could possibly give Aidan O’Brien a famous win in the Racing Post Trophy today. Galway maiden winner Hazapour is also one for the shortlist.
Onenightidreamed is an interesting entry for the Listed TheTote.com Knockaire Stakes (3.05 Leopardstown) having traded at 4/6 in-running a couple of weeks ago at Cork at this level, before finishing second to Brendan Brackan. He likes some cut in the ground so should be thereabouts but David O’Meara’s SO BELOVED, which was trading at 3/1 yesterday, looks the one to beat.
He put in a career best when three-quarters of a length second to Aclaim in the Group One Prix de la Foret at Chantilly last time which is about the best piece of form on offer here. At Wexford tomorrow, STATIC
JACK catches the eye around 6/1 for the Casey Precast Handicap Steeplechase (3.45). Second in a decent handicap at Punchestown behind A Sizing Network recently off 1lb lower, Ellmarie Holden’s gelding is beginning to find his form again following a fruitless spell in which he fell and was pulled up a number of times. Ned Stark is another one to watch for Gordon Elliott. Formerly trained by Alan King, he looked in need of the run at Gowran in September but the word on the street is that he’s doing well at home.
Galway also has some jumps action tomorrow, and HE’S
OUR MAN gets the nod eachway around 10/1 for the Faber Audiovisuals Handicap Hurdle (3.25). Now aged 12, he’s got a lot of miles on the clock but he proved there’s still life in the old dog yet when second in a handicap hurdle at Cork recently off 2lb lower, and he slips in nicely here at the bottom of the weights with 10st.
Finally, CLUAN DARA has been frustrating to follow but can finally get off the mark in the opening maiden hurdle (1.05 Galway).
