Why a service history is worth €1,000 on your average car

A PROPER service history is worth between €1,000 and €1,500 on the value of a typical €10,000 family car.

Not having it means you risk losing that much when selling or trading in.

The figures were put in context by an expert this week. If you are looking at cars, which would you buy? One with a seamless history or one infrequently updated?

The value of such a history is highlighted thanks to a new venture called My Service History. info.

The man behind it, Niall Devine, has devised a system to help — by digitally storing your car’s service history.

His system also alerts you to when a service is imminent and reminds you when your tax, insurance, NCT etc are due. It even warns about changing tyres .

The good thing is it doesn’t cost you a cent. For an unlimited number of customers the outlet that services your car is charged upwards of €75/month. This rises depending on use of brand name in reminders, emails, information on cars for sale, etc.

The idea started with Niall’s own experience of missing an NCT and the headache of renewing insurance as a result.

If you get your car serviced with someone who is on the platform, you get the digital storage for free. The bonus for the servicer is they get to tell you about their valeting service, for example, or cars for sale that you might be interested in.

But the big plus, from a motorist’s viewpoint, is your service history is preserved and your €1,000-€1,500 is protected.
