McCaskill puts Taylor in mean mood

- Bernard O’Neill

EDDIE HEARN reckons that Katie Taylor is in a mean mood for the first time ahead of her voluntary WBA World lightweight title defence before Christmas.

Undefeated Taylor (right) is being lined up to defend her crown against Chicago’s Jessica McCaskill at a London venue yet to be confirmed on December

15.

The 10-rounder could be confirmed today, with McCaskill’s manager Ricky Ramos predicting that Taylor will be dethroned.

McCaskill, who has been calling out Taylor for months, ramped up the heat as she declared: “I’ve been after her for a while and I want it as soon as possible. “I have no problem going over there. It is difficult for me to get fights because people just don’t want to fight me. My power is something awesome. “No-one over there knows about, but you will see,” added the orthodox, who has won five of her six fights.

Hearn, who promotes Taylor, believes that McCaskill’s taunts have irked Ireland’s Olympic champion.

“I’m looking to headline Katie in London in December and she wants McCaskill,” he said.

“It’s the first time I’ve seen real spite in Katie about a fight. Their team have been calling her out for around a year now.

“It would be a brilliant fight. Both are technically excellent and love to trade. I’m hoping we can make it happen.”
