Bickering politicians are hogging the headlines at a critical time

-

■ The headlines shouldn’t be about ministers, nor should they be about parties pushing like dogs to get ahead of each other.

News headlines should be reporting on the in-depth strategies our Government is taking to solve homelessness before Christmas; or the accommodation crisis for students who are still looking for a place to live; or proposals for railway development in order to further connect rural Ireland.

But no, all of this is swept aside allowing us to listen to a constant reel of adults’ playground bickering.

The current state of selfobsessed mayhem in Leinster House by Opposition parties is paralysing. Let our Government get on with the work it has been assigned to do.

And yes we all want fairness in society. We all want fairness within the Garda force.

We can sort out these current issues with a fragment of common sense.

It appears to me that Tánaiste Frances Fitzgerald is telling the truth and that Fianna Fáil and Sinn Féin are manufacturing this crisis by fuelling the notion of conspiracy for their own benefit.

More important than my opinion is that this is a critical time for Ireland and the Irish people.

We simply do not need the unnecessary headache of an election at this particular time. Keith Gallagher Co Donegal
