KILDARE SPORTS PARTNERSHIP have started a sports programme in Scoil Phádraig Naofa, Athy.

Tag rugby is one of the sports on the agenda for the participants and Leinster Rugby, in conjunction with Athy RFC, delivered a taster session on Thursday, November 16.

The programme is being co-ordinated by Aine Buggy, sports inclusion disability officer for Kildare Sports Partnership, and is open to children with disabilities who attend in Scoil Phádraig Naofa on Wednesdays from 4-5pm.

The rugby programme is facilitated by Athy RFC CCRO Tadhg Kelleher and north midlands CRO Joe Carbery.

The follow-up to the taster session will be a six-week programme starting on Wednesday, January 17 next year.

The session content will be based around the kids having fun followed by developing the players’ core agility, balance and co-ordination, with the core skills of rugby – the pass, run and evasion – also a priority.

At this stage the programme has roughly 15 participants and is well supported by the parents of the children.

The programme highlights the developing and ongoing relationship Leinster Rugby and the north midlands rugby clubs have with Kildare Sports Partnership.
